Optical transmission characterization of fused silica materials irradiated at the CERN Large Hadron Collider

چکیده

The Target Absorbers for Neutrals (TANs) represent one of the most radioactive regions in Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Seven 40 cm long fused silica rods with different dopant specifications, manufactured by Heraeus, were irradiated TANs located around ATLAS experiment Beam RAte (BRAN) detector group. This campaign took place during Run 2 p+p data taking, which occurred between 2016 and 2018. paper reports a complete characterization optical transmission per unit length materials as function wavelength (240 nm - 1500 nm), dose (up to 18 MGy), level OH H$_2$ dopants introduced manufacturing process. delivered was estimated using Monte Carlo simulations performed CERN FLUKA team.

Excited Leptons at the CERN Large Hadron Collider

We analyze the potential of the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) to search for excited spin-12 electrons and neutrinos. Assuming a SU(2)L⊗U(1)Y invariant model, we study in detail the single production of excited electrons and neutrinos and respective backgrounds through the reactions pp → e+e−V and e±νV with V = γ, W , or Z. We show that the LHC will be able to tighten considerably the direct ...

Tagging two-photon production at the CERN Large Hadron Collider

Tagging two-photon interactions offers a significant extension of the CERN LHC physics program. The effective luminosity of high-energy gg collisions reaches 1% of the proton-proton luminosity. The standard detector techniques used for measuring very forward proton scattering will allow a reliable separation of interesting two-photon interactions. Particularly exciting is the possibility of det...

The future of the Large Hadron Collider and CERN.

This paper presents the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and its current scientific programme and outlines options for high-energy colliders at the energy frontier for the years to come. The immediate plans include the exploitation of the LHC at its design luminosity and energy, as well as upgrades to the LHC and its injectors. This may be followed by a linear electron-positron collider, based on th...
